MY #BOROMANCAN STORY:

I was employed at British Steel at the blast furnaces, when I had a serious accident, causing permanent injuries, leading to long term mobility issues and effectively ending my career.  I was in and out of hospital for years. My mobility improved for a time, and I was able to get out and about.

Then five years ago, my health deteriorated and I was back in my wheelchair. I found the loss of mobility very depressing, so to combat my low mood, I looked for something to get involved in. I was introduced to the Sporting Chance project in 2015, signed up and I’m now Chairperson for Sporting Chance Bellamy Court. I’m told that I’m good at engaging people, using my sense of humour to make them feel at ease. I used to be shy and introverted but volunteering has definitely increased my confidence. I now run regular bingo sessions for the local community too.
